摘要

We read with great interest the recent article by Brit Mollenhauer and colleagues and are delighted that one of their findings-CSF alpha-synuclein reduction in patients with multiple system atrophy and Parkinson's disease compared with controls-confirms what we reported previously. Mollenhauer and colleagues did an excellent job of further assessing the use of CSF a-synuclein as a biomarker of Parkinson's disease in two independent cohorts. It would have been interesting to see whether there was a correlation between total CSF a-synuclein and severity of Parkinson's disease, which did not seem to be the case in an earlier study, in such an impressive number of patients with Parkinson's disease.
