A Midwife's Gratitude

I've been caring for women in labor and birth for a little over a year now and every time the miracle of life occurs and I'm welcomed in its presence, I feel a warm sensation throughout my body that overwhelms my heart and brings tears to my eyes. I firmly believe science and spirituality converge at a moment when new life is welcomed into the world. Working to become a midwife is one of the most rewarding experiences I've ever had. A calling deep in my heart led me to midwifery, as did many of my life experiences. My earliest experiences on the path to this profession occurred with my mother. Early on, she openly discussed sex, love, passion and relationships with me, and she was always accepting and protective of my womanhood.
