A total of 73 individuals were enrolled in the study. As expected, glycemic index was higher in the low-fat group than in the low-glycemic-index group, whereas dietary fat was higher in the low-glycemic-index group than in the low-fat group. Dietary protein and fiber were comparable. Change in percentage body fat and body weight did not differ between the two study groups overall; however, the 30min insulin concentration was found to modify these outcomes. Participants with an insulin concentration >57.5muIU/ml experienced greater weight loss with the low-glycemic-index diet than with the low-fat diet (5.8 kg versus 1.2 kg, P=0.004).
