The ABC o concocting biodiesel

Most people are familiar with what biodiesel is but how is it made? What is involved in taking canola from the paddock and turning it into fuel for the tractor or ute? This article provides a brief overview of how biodiesel can be made on farm and theequipment required. The use of biofuels as a blend or a replacement for mineral fuels is now well know around the world. Across Australia, biodiesel is sold in blends with mineral diesel from five per cent (called B5) to 20% (B20), but most diesel engines are perfectly capable of running on pure biodiesel (B100). Farmers have long been interested in making their own biodiesel as the raw product, usually canola seed, is often grown in large quantities on farm. This article outlines the basic steps involved in the small-scale production of biodiesel.
