摘要

RSM Bird Cameron agribusiness director Geoff Hall gives a clinical assessment of the carbon tax and what it will mean for Australian farmers from July 1. The Carbon Tax has been initially set at $23 per tonne and from July 1 will apply to approximately 500 of Australia's largest carbon emitters. The Government proposes the Carbon Tax package is designed to reduce carbon emissions by at least 159 million tonnes per annum. The package includes a range of measures which the Government believe shall offset the additional costs passed on to Australian households which include tax cuts and the provision of increased allowances, payments and benefits. Subsidies are also planned for high polluters where jobs may be at risk. But how will the Carbon Tax package affect the farmer? Carbon emissions created through agricultural pursuits have been specifically excluded from the Carbon Tax.
