Transformations taking place in YbH_3-Ge and Yb-Ge systems under the conditions of high quasihydrostatic pressures at 500-900 deg C were studied. The formation of a new compound, YbGe, crystallizing in the face-centered cubic (fcc) lattice with the period a=5690 A was established. It was presumed that a number of other new compounds are formed in the Yb-Ge system at high pressures.
