A historical analysis of the goals and problems of school Olympiads in chemistry in the Russian Federation from the late 1930s to the early 2000s is performed.Various aspects of the history of school Olympiads in chemistry in our country have become the subject of a whole series of studies (see, for example[1-4]). In the present work, we have performed a historical analysis of the goals and problems set by the organizers of the Olympiad movement at different stages of its existence (for the period from the late 1930s to the early 2000s). As the main literature sources for this analysis, we used monographs [3, 5, 6], regulatory documents (regulations on all-Russia Olympiads, general letters about their results, etc.), and documents from personal archives. The latter were essential for determining the goals and problems of the very first Olympiads of the late 1930s through the 1950s.
