Senator Daniel K. Inouye of Hawaii died on 17 December 2012 at the age of 88. Sen. Inouye was involved in various metrication efforts in Congress. For example, the August 1976 U.S. Metric Association Newsletter noted the introduction of S.Res. 453 by Senators Claiborne Pell and Daniel K. Inouye, a resolution to require the inclusion of metric units in all bills, resolutions, amendments, and committee reports that use units of measurement.
