Resveratrol is a polyphenol phytoalexin (trans-3,5,4'-trihydroxystilbene) that possesses diverse biochemical and physiological actions . Recently, resveratrol was found having a role in protecting the brain from ischemic eperfusion injury . A major emphasis in this field is to understand the molecular mechanism of resveratrol preconditioning that mediate cerebral ischemic-reperfusion injury. Different molecular mechanism underlying the cerebroprotective effects of resveratrol have been pointed out such as: (i) inhibition of the activation of S1RT1 , nitric oxide induced toxicity in in vitro studies , (ii) antioxidant property of resveratrol , (iii) free radical scavenging and cerebral blood elevation . In addition, the increased heme oxygenase activity by resveratrol was presumed to be the unique pathway by which this compound could exert its neuroprotective actions . Moreover, our previous study confirmed that resveratrol had protective effects against acute ischemic stroke, which could be attributed to its property against MMP-9 .
