'This industry is very receptive to new information' Ontario strawberry growers are proving to be keen students of the industry. The Ontario Berry Growers' Association sponsored a pair of seminars earlier this year, with a capacity for 50 growers at each session. Both were filled to capacity... with waiting lists. This year's topic, Maximizing Your Berry Yields by Understanding The Strawberry, was an indepth look at growth management of the plant. Two research leaders in the field - one from the U.S., the other from Ontario -led the seminars. Dr. Joseph Fiola is a small fruit specialist at Rutgers Fruit and Research and Extension Center in New Jersey. His background includes plant breeding and strawberry production systems research. He has worked in adapting annual strawberry production on raised beds to New Jersey conditions.
