We are in the packing house of Tel Mond. It is not really a packing house any more now that the main flower business has shifted from Israel to Central Africa. It should really be called a logistics centre, as Adar Assaf, product manager for fresh herbs, explains. All highly perishable articles go to Tel Mond, especially fresh herbs from all over the country, from Galilee to the Arava. We are talking about 75-80% of the entire herb export in Israel, which Assaf puts at 6,500 t. "In the year 1985/86", he explains, "We started producing fresh herbs as a seasonal product in winter with a very small volume. Now Agrexco supplies 35 varieties to Western and Eastern Europe, North America and the Far East all year round."
