Non-destructive measurement of fruit maturity in tomatoes, musk melons and greenhouse cucumbers.

A device for non-destructive testing of the maturity of fruit is described. Results of tests on 6 tomato cultivars showed a highly significant correlation between measurements made using the non-destructive device and the penetrometer tester. In test with musk melon, measurement at the flower end of the fruit gave the best results of maturity rather than around the equator of the fruit. Results are also presented on test on cucumbers measured in different positions.
