摘要

Forest biosecurity can be compromised by delays in the detection and identification of pathogens. In addition, knowledge of baseline biodiversity is a requisite component to developing pest risk analyses. Often it is not possible to identify a pathogen by its morphology; it may not be visible in or on the substrate. Several pathogens may present in the same substrate. The much reduced cost of molecular analyses has opened the door to the development of sophisticated detection and identification techniques for fungi.
