FDA third-party certification guide not a hit with food industry

Many of the large food trade organizations and companies are saying, "thanks but no thanks" to FDA's draft guidance to certify a voluntary third-party certification program for inspecting food and feed. The Bush administration touted third-party certification in its 2007 Food Protection Plan as a means of expanding FDA's resource-starved inspection workforce and of focusing more inspection attention on higher risk foods.
