Whole Fish Imports Start 2006 Strong, Fillets Slip

U.S. fresh whole salmon imports began 2006 with January figures over 44% greater than January 2005 imports. Scotland's whole exports to the U.S. are on the rise. Imports of fresh fillets dropped 16% from January 2005 levels. Retail fillet prices increased as Chile reflected further losses. Trading of frozen fillets and portions is nil. Fresh Whole Fish - To kick off 2006, imports of fresh whole Atlantic salmon to the U.S. look strong and have risen over 2005 levels. Year-to-date figures for January showed 16.1 million Ibs imported into the U.S. This was a 44.6% increase from the comparable period in 2005 (Table 1).
