Statoil profits dip

Norway's Statoil saw its profits decline by 11% in 2012 compared to 2011, even though production increased on the previous year. The operator's net income for the year was US $12.67 Bn, down from a profit of $ 14.29 Bn in 2011. Statoil attributed the fall in profits to a decreased gain from the sale of assets and decreased unrealised gains on derivatives. The fall in profits came despite an 8% rise in revenue and other income to $131.88 Bn, compared to the $122.15 Bn generated in 2011. Helping lift revenue were increased commodity prices combined with a rise in production for Statoil.
