THE 'A1' marque was originally established in the 1920s for melons grown and exported by the Sanchez family in Murcia, Spain. Miguel Sanchez took over from his father in the later 1970s to become the third generation in the fruit business. In 1988, heused the brand to launch a new company, A1 Fruit, based on excellent grower relationships that had been formed over the past years. The company has focused on supplying fruit to the processing sector, filling the void in dedicated supply and becoming the largest supplier to the juicing and processing industry. Eurof ruit Magazine spoke to managing director Dan Cahill about the opportunities currently available for fresh produce suppliers to diversify client base.
