In a recent commentary, Manuel Costa suggested that those interested in BMB education should work as a community of scholars to elevate the quality of questions we ask related to biochemistry teaching and learning [1]. Specifically, he encouraged us to design studies that are grounded in theory and provide results that are broadly relevant. Yet, for those of us who were trained as bench scientists in the molecular life sciences, the idea of formulating and executing a high-quality education research study can be daunting.
