How Perfect Should Our Courses Be?

We now live in a world where perfection and instant gratification are the buzz words of modern society. Golf club memberships are no different. Problems on the course must be overcome yesterday and, whether we like it or not, the dressed up golfing stages beamed into our living rooms every week are the benchmark by which many are judged. These days we expect to play from perfect tees to perfect fairways and hole out on perfect greens. What's more, if we stray we expect to be able to recover from perfect bunkers. What nonsense! Golf was not meant to be like this so why do we try and achieve perfection when perfection has no place in nature and no place in the natural challenge that is golf!
