PERFORMANCE OF DIFFERENT BREEDS OF PIGS UNDER VILLAGE CONDITION OF MEGHALAYA

A study was conducted on 284 piglets of 4 different breeds, viz. Hampshire, Large Black, upgraded pig of 75% and 87.50% (Hampshire x Meghalaya local) exotic inherited pig to find out the productive and reproductive performance at farmers' field underimproved version of traditional system of rearing in Meghalaya. The growth pattern among the different breeds was almost similar. However, the reproductive performance of 87.5% upgraded pig was found to be better than the two exotic breeds. The overall performance indicates that 87.5% upgraded variety is most suitable at farmers' field in the state of Meghalaya.
