Effect of mating system, parity and breed on the reproductive performances of broiler rabbits under the agro - climatic condition of Meghalaya

800datafrom30doesmatedwith9bucksondifferentreproductiveparametersrecordedduringlasttwoyears(2003-2004and2004-2005)indivisionalfarmoftheinstitutewereanalyzed.30doesdividedrandomlyintwogroupssothateachgroupconsistedof5NewZealandWhite,5SovietChinchillaand5MeghalayaLocaldoes.InGroup1doeswerematedonceinthemorning,whereasinGroup2,doeswerebredtwiceonthesamedayieinthemorningandintheafternoon.Analysisofdatarevealedthatmatingsystemhadsignificant(P0.05)effectonindividuallitterweightatbirthandnon-significant(P0.05)effectonlittersizeatbirth,litterweightatbirth,littersizeatweaning,litterweightatweaning,individuallitterweightatweaning,serviceperconceptionandinter-kindlingperiod.Parityhadsignificant(P0.05)effectonlittersizeatbirthandserviceperconception.Breedhadsignificant(P0.05)effectonindividuallitterweightatweaning.Butindividuallitterweightatbirthinsinglemating(58.31g)wassignificantly(P0.05)higherthanthatindoublematinggroup(50.56g).Littersizeatbirthwassignificantly(P0.05)higherin3rdparity(6.80)thanthatin1stand2ndparitywithanoverallmeanof6.08.Serviceperconceptionwassignificantly(P0.05)lowerin2ndand3rdparitythanthatin1stparitywithnon-significant(P0.05)differencesbetween2ndand3rdparity.However,individuallitterweightatweaningwassignificantly(P0.05)higherinSovietChinchillaandNewZealandWhiterabbitthanthatinindigenousbreedofMeghalaya.Ifdoublematingispracticedinrabbitbreeding,farmerswillbemorebenefitedintermsoflittersizeatbirth,littersizeatweaning,litterweightatbirth,lesserservicesperconceptionandnumberoflivebornkits/doe/year.
