Influence of N, P fertilisation on performance and production economics of rainfed okra intercropped with tomato

The influence of nitrogen and phosphorus on performance and production economics of rainfed okra intercropped with tomato was studied. Application of increased doses of nitrogen from 40 kg to 200 kg/ha recorded significantly higher yield and size of fruit in base crop (okra) but the plant height improved upto 160kg N/ha level. Companion crop also showed yield improvement upto 160kg level. Application of 160kg N/ha recorded comparatively 15.26, 7.29 and 1.33 per cent higher mean okra-equivalent yieldover 40, 80 and 120 kg N level, respectively. The highest mean net return (Rs 48958) and net profit (427%) were also recorded at 160 kg level of N application. Phosphorus application did not show any significant effect on individual plant performance, fruit size and unmarketable yield in okra. The maximum mean net return and net profit were also recorded with 60 kg P_2O_5/ha level.
