Aussie-built Vauxhall V8s are fun but crude, right? Wrong, says Richard Bremner. On the right road, the new VXR8 is more than match for a BMW M5 or Mercedes E63. It's about three miles long, this road, as it crosses open, sandy heathland. And it undulates. Nothing severe, but there are fairly gentle crests and dips - the sort that will fit just inside the wheelbase of one of these cars - and a bit of camber variation, too, the road's nearside edge occasionally sinking. By the standards of Britain's roads, it's not too bad, and there are no potholes. So why describe it? Because this is a road to prise open cracks in the armour of these cars - one of them especially so. But what armour these cars have. If you crave horsepower - lashings of it, with a king-sized side order of torque - then these three are your kind of car. And ours.
