Synthesis and evaluation of antiinflammatory and analgesic activity of some new 1,3-diphenyl-2-aryltetrahydroimidazoles

In an effort to search for new antiinflammatory and analgesic agents,some new tetrahydroimidazole derivatives 2a-2g have been synthesized via condensation of 1,2-diamilinoethane with various aldehydes.Characterization of the newly synthesized compounds have been done on the basis of ~1H NMR and mass spectral data.The resulting compounds have been evaluated for their antiinflammatory activity.The activity of compounds 2b and 2c is excellent and comparable to indomethacin.All these compounds have been tested for their analgesic activity also and their LD_50 determined.Compounds 2b and 2c show a comparable activity with aspirin.The MTD for all the compounds is found to be >1800 mg/kg.
