More than a quarter of the countries in the world are Islamic, and a fifth of the global population are adherents to Islam梐n understanding of Islam is vital to an understanding of the world today. The last 30 years has seen a resurgence in Islam, andthis has become a strong influence on international affairs. Can you explain this resurgence? The resurgence of Islam is a movement to bring Islam into the modern world. It is not a return of traditional Islam. The term "resurgence" has rather negativeconnotations, but in reality the aim is to resolve the conflicts between Islam and modern civilization.
