Those in the world of geomechanics are facing new challenges and must work harder than ever to deliver solutions to the resource sector. Dwyidag Systems International national sales manager Mark Philpott said: "More difficult areas to mine mean higher specifications for support products." DSI develops and supplies mining and geotechnical products and systems to mining and allied industries. Philpott said the trend towards deeper mines and the increased seismic activity at those depths had created demand for better performing products. Today's miners, he told Australia's Mining Monthly, were after longer-term permanent support through technological offerings such as improved corrosion protection. Niche products such as expandable bolts with deformation characteristics were also on the geomechanic agenda for miners; as were improvements to surface support, particularly when it came to shotcreting.
