Sunflower meal was evaluated in the vegetable and practical diets for broiler breeder hens, in which sunflower meal protein (SFMP) replaced 0,30 and 60 percent of soybean meal protein (SBMP). Each level of sunflower meal was fed without or with multi-enzyme mixture (Optizyme-p5). Diets were fed during the pre-laying 22-26 wk and laying period 27-50 wk of age. The proximate chemical composition of sunflower meal indicated that it contains 91.2 percent DM, 30.9 percent CP, 1.6 percent EE, 7.04 percent ash, 2.01 percent CF, 31.65 percent NFE, 1314 and 2019 kcal/kg diet for apparent metabolizable energy (AME) and true metabolizable energy (TME), respectively. It contains 0.62 percent methionine, 1.70 percent lysine, 1.21 percent threonine, and 2.81 percent arginine and these amino acids could meet the requirements of broiler breeder hens. Sunflower meal had no negative effects on weight gains; age at 50 percent and peak production and egg weight at 50 percent production and enzyme addition had no effect either. Egg number, egg mass, number of hatched chicks, and economic efficiency were significantly improved when SFMP was included in the laying diets. However, enzyme addition or type of diet as an independent variable had insignificant effects on most of the productive traits. Level of SFMP and enzyme addition had no negative effects on eggshell quality. Nonetheless, increasing level of sunflower meal linearly decreased yolk color. Fertility and hatchability were not adversely affected by including up to 60 percent SFMP in broiler breeder hens vegetable diets. Meanwhile, feeding vegetable diet significantly increased fertility and number of hatched chicks while, significantly decreased digesta passage time and serum cholesterol compared to practical diet. It could be concluded that sunflower meal up to approx 22 percent in broiler breeder hen diets during the pre-laying and laying periods had no adverse effect on either egg number or economic efficiency.
