Collective negotiations for Australian dairy farmers

Earlier this year, Australian dairy farmers were granted authorisation to form collective bargaining groups to negotiate terms of supply, including pricing, with dairy processing companies. Dannielle Coleman from Blake Dawson Waldron discusses some of the legal implications of the decision. In the June 2001 issue of Australian Dairy Foods, Daniel Preston of Blake Dawson Waldron discussed the risks associated with collective negotiation under the Trade Practices Act 1974 (TPA). He noted that these types of arrangements risked contravening the TPA's 'price fixing' or 'collective boycott' provisions.
