According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, 30 percent of small businesses are seen to be unsuccessful after the first year of operation and that around only 45 percent of small businesses survive for ten years. With all the pitfalls that existfor small business in our global economy it is important that you minimise the risks of failure as much as possible. The best possible way to do this is to ensure that you have a proper long-term plan in place with realistic vision, mission and goals aswell as ensuring that you are operating in accordance with legislation, especially in relation to your employees. The small biotech business owner must wear many different hats and one of the most important is that of Human Resources Manager. You must be aware of your legal obligations to employees with respect to recruitment and pay and working conditions.
