During the decade after I began working on farms and woodlots, the transition from the predominance of horse power to tractor power was completed. If I eat well, exercise enough, and do not start smoking again, I may live to see the reverse transition play itself out as the peak in world oil production passes, and we begin the process of non-renewable energy depletion (see, "The View from Hubbert' s Peak," AFR, May 2005).
