Off-peak storage for electric central heating system - uses direct conversion boiler and off-peak tariff boiler to store energy to fuel domestic system

The method involves both direct water heating and storage of the water heated during off peak electricity tariff times. The stored energy is used during periods of peak tariffs to reduce the direct heating load required to maintain the temp. of the central heating system circulating hot water. The system uses two water tabks (1 and 2), one for off peak storage and the other for direct useage, and two independent circuits coupled to the heating radiators, with each circuit having its own circulation pump (6,7). The pumps operate alternately according to a preset sequence controlled by a timer. A thermostatic mixing valve (9) is used to derive the correct flow from each tank to maintain the circulating water temp. The temp. of the water in each of the tanks is far greater than that of the water circulating in the radiators.
