The year 2012 was a difficult year for feedmillers in Vietnam. High feed ingredient prices and that led to high feed prices, the credit crunch and low livestock prices led many farmers to downsize or even halt their operations. This resulted in a sharp drop in commercial feed sales across the country.Hong Ha too expected to see the growth of its feed sales slide to only 30% or 200,000 tonnes in 2012, down from an average annual growth of about 40% over the last four years.
