Opec’s secretary-general expects US tight oil production to fall by up to 50pc under current oil prices, a fgure that fies in the face of most other analyses. “If prices stay at $85/bl, we will see a lot of investment, a lot of oil, going out of the market,” Opec secretary-general Abdullah al-Badri says. Shale producers have already hedged their output against lower oil prices for this year, but 2015 could see production shut-ins, he says.
