Baltic dry freight change raises concern

Changes to the terms of four Baltic dry freight index contracts are proving controversial, with some saying they have changed the underlying basis of a range of forward contracts. The Baltic Exchange’s Freight Market Information Users’ Group (FMIUG) will meet in July to discuss the implications and decide on a plan of action. The Exchange maintains that extensive consultation was carried out before the changes were made and denies that they have affected freight rates.
