Japan Polyethylene, an afliate of Mitsubishi Chemical, has decided to shut down its low-density polyethylene (LDPE) plant at Kamisu, Japan, from May 2021. The production capacity of the plant is 62,000 metric tons/year. Japan Polyethylene says that the supply and demand situation has deteriorated due to new global expansions. It has also seen fnancial burden from repair costs. The company will also stop production of ethylene–vinyl acetate (EVA) copolymers at its Oita plant. According to IHS Markit, the production capacity of EVA there is 60,000 metric tons/year.
