Laboratory animal allergy (LAA) is a common disease inlaboratory animal workers. It causes significant healthproblems (particularly asthma) and as such is animportant issue for laboratory workers. Clinical features, methods of investigation andrecommendations for treatment and/or secondaryprevention are presented. Current research into theimmunological aspects of this disease is summarised.The implications of clinical and immunologiealknowledge are discussed in the context of occupationalhealth and workforce strategies, particularly primaryand tertiary prevention.
