摘要

A need to assist drivers in avoiding suddenly appearing obstacles has been identified. A computer controlled obstacle avoidance system has been proposed to operate as an artificial co-driver assisting obstacle avoidance. This study focuses onideal manoeuvres determined by vehicles' dynamics using such a system.Obstacle avoidance manoeuvres resulting in the shortest possible avoidance distances were determined. All viable manoeuvres were evaluated using a total tyre force angleγwhich is defined as the angle between the total tyre force and the vehicle'slongitudinal axis (Fig.1). Ideal manoeuvres using constantγwere determined analytically. Variableγ's and other parameters' influence on avoidance distance were studied in numerical computer simulations.
