Sound Radiation from a convex dome is analyzed. A dome-type loudspeaker in an infinite baffle is considered as a convex sound source. Finite elements are applied both to the mechanical system of the dome-type loudspeaker and an acoustic cavity between the sub-frame mounted on the loudspeaker and the convex diaphragm. The finite elements in the cavity are applied to enable this finite element approach applicable to a convex sound source. Outer sound field is treated by an analytical method. Calculated results are; 1) normalized sound pressure; 2) directional characteristics; 3) driving-point impedance; 3) mode shape, and 4) inner and outer sound pressure distribution from the dome-type loudspeaker. Comparison between calculation and measurement in terms of sound pressure response of the dome-type loudspeaker showed validity of this approach. We think this analysis leads to quantitative evaluation of sound pressure response from a dome-type loudspeaker, vibrational behavior of diaphragms, and sound pressure distribution from convex sound sources.
