摘要

The value of clinical photography, video and audio recordings of patients for healthcare teaching, publication and research is well understood by the readers of this journal. However, a combination of cultural and technological changes in recent years has led to a growing realisation among healthcare educators of the legal and ethical constraints on their use.The problem is that someone who wanted to ensure that their use of a clinical image for teaching and learning was beyond reproach, would have to wade through a vast amount of information from different sources. Not only is there a lot to read, but some information seems contradictory and is often more precise about what should not be done than about what can be done to ensure that their use is ethical. However, help is at hand.
