The low-point for the rutile price was also in Q2 2016-at $US 725 per tonne. The price rose to $US 800 per tonne in Q2 2017, then followed a bumpy path through to Q3 2018, with a sequence of rises and falls from one quarter to the next. The underlying trend was upward and by Q3 2018 the average realised price for rutile was around $US 900 per tonne. From then onwards, the rutile price rose strongly, reaching $US 1190 per tonne in Q2 2019. It subsequently edged up still further, reaching $US 1220 per tonne in Q4 2019.
