Persistence of Pesticides in Capsicum (Capsicum annuum L.) under Greenhouse and Open Field

Field trials were conducted to study the difference in dissipation of the most commonly used organophosphate insecticides viz. acephate, quinalphos, chlorpyriphos and triazophos as well as a fungicide, carbendazim in/on capsicum grown in green house versus open field. Except carbendazim, all the four organophosphates dissipated at slower rate under green house conditions. These persisted till 15 days in/on capsicum under green house cultivation whereas only acephate and chlorpyriphos showed persistence till 15 days in open field. Greater variation in the rate of dissipation was observed in case of quinalphos followed by acephate, triazophos and chlorpyriphos. Carbendazim being systemic in nature might have undergone rapid dissipation due to faster growth rate of capsicum under green house. All the insecticides except quinalphos dissipated with biphasic mode under open field cultivation whereas under green house conditions except triazophos, rest showed monophasic mode of dissipation.
