The invention refers to a variety of bell pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) named "Auriu". This variety helps enrich the bell pepper variety, for the first time in the country, with a variety of fruits which, when reaching consumption maturity, have an intense orange colour. The variety is designed for fresh consumption and processing and can be cultivated in all suitable regions of the country, especially in the south and south-east. The "Auriu" long pepper variety has hardy plants of 60 to 70 cm in height, with 3 or 4 branches in an erect position, with dark green leaves. The fruit is round and slightly squashed, with a smooth surface which is slightly marked by 3 or 4 lobes, has a diameter of 7.0 to 9.7 cm, a height of 3.9 to 4.7 cm, a weight of 120 to 150 g, 3 or 4 seed lodges, with an 8 to 10 mm thick pericarp that has a slightly spicy taste and is dark green before ripening and intense shiny orange when it reaches physiological maturity. It is an early, productive (45 tonnes/hectare) variety with a load of 7 or 8 fruits per plant, of which 4 or 5 reach physiological maturity, is tolerant to Verticillium dahliae and Alternaria capsici annuui. The fruit contains 9.51 percent total dry substance, 200 mg/100 g ascorbic acid and 15.85 mg/100 g carotene.
