Pseudovivipary inChuniophoenix hainanensis

This report documents pseudoviviarpy, the formation of plantlets in the inflorescence, in Chuniophoenix hainanensis. Social media is facilitating the discovery and documentation of the biological world in some unexpected ways. Readers of this journalwill remember the thrilling discovery of Tahina spectabilis on PalmTalk (Dransfield et al. 2008), but a Brazilian sundew (Drosera magnifica), a Javanese waxvine (Hoya amicabilis) and a Turkish snowdrop (Galanthus bursanus) also owe their discoveries to photos posted online.Videos of heretofore unknown animal behaviors are being posted on social media, and users of iNaturalist are documenting the natural world to an extent undreamt of a decade ago. The senior author has observed Chuniophoenix hainanensis in Singapore Botanic Gardens over the last two years and photographed it in Feburary, 2020 (Fig. 1).
