Softer demand curbs US raw material imports

Steelmakers in the United States limited their raw material imports in November due to lackluster demand stemming from planned outages and expectations that domestic ferrous scrap would remain more affordable than its foreign counterpart. Imports of raw materials in November - booked in October -declined 22.8% sequentially, with ferrous scrap, pig iron and direct-reduced iron (DRI) intake falling across the board, US Census Bureau data show.
