As announced by the Japan Soft Drink Association, production of soft drinks in 2018 rose 5.2% from a year earlier to 22,746,300kl, registering record highs for 4 years in a row. In 2018, temperatures rose from spring and the rainy season in the Kanto Koshinetsu Area finished earlier than usual years in June, the record earliest since records began. Thereafter, while there was a boost due to weather factors such as intense heat and lingering heat on a nationwide scale, there were a series of natural disasters such as torrential rain in West Japan, powerful typhoons and earthquakes. Due to the effects of such events, production and logistics segments of the soft drink industry suffered. Consequently, in the midst of the increase in demand from the intense heat, there was a shortage of trucks for transport, resulting in some product supply restrictions for a period of time. However, throughout the year, owing to the results of marketing measures and brand value enhancement by various companies, production achievement surpassing the previous year was attained.
