BIODIESEL BLENDING ROSE BY MORE THAN ONE THIRD IN 2019 UNITED KINGDOM

Biodiesel consumption in November 2019 totalled 148 mln litres (around 130,000 tonnes), a plus of 63% on the year, HM Custom data show, following a 38% increase to 159 mln in October. The Jan/Nov total reached 1,447 mln litres, up 34% y/y. The rise in the Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation (RTFO) to 8.50% vol. from January 1, 2019, against 7.25% from April 1, 2018 and a previous 4.75% was the main reason behind this. However, gains were capped by a 2% decline in diesel demand. The average blending share in November amounted to around 5.8% vol., down from 6.4% in October and bringing the Jan/Nov total to 5.3% (up from 3.9% last year). There is a B-7 standard in the UK.
