A note on Toxicodendron vemicifluum (Stokes) FA Barkley

摘要

I read with interest the article of Cho et al. (2012) entitled: "Neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory activities of the methano-lic extract of Rhus verniciflua Stokes" Food and Chemical Toxicology 50(6), 1940-1945. This article is quite interesting and the authors should be complimented for the great amount of work they have done. The purpose of this letter is to call attention to the need for some clarification on the name of the plant described in this article. Cho et al. (2012) state:" In our screening system using glutamate-injured HT22 hippocampal cells and LPS-activated BV2 microglial cells, the methanolic extract of the leaves of Rhus verniciflua Stokes was found to have significant neuroprotective activity in HT-22 cells and anti-inflammatory activity in BV2 cells" and "R. verniciflua is a deciduous tree native to Korea, Japan and China and has been traditionally used as a natural dye, food additive and herbal medicine, which has been reported to improve blood circulation and prevent blood stasis".
