摘要

Alaska has seen a series of large discoveries that could potentially reverse its declining production, but political uncertainty and the remote Arctic location could challenge operators looking to develop the resources. The state's oil production has declined steadily from an annual high of just over 2 million barrels per day in 1988, which was driven by the giant Prudhoe Bay field. Output today is running at around 500,000 b/d - a level so low that it threatens the continued operation of of the Trans Alaska Pipeline. However, since the fall of 2016 companies have reported a series of large oil finds in the Brookian-aged Nanushuk and Torok formations that could help reverse the trend.
