Heavy snow is disrupting coal transportation in northern China, the country’s major coal-producing region, potentially tighten- ing supplies and pushing up prices. Shanxi, China’s second biggest coal-producing province, has closed several highways connecting Changzhi, Shuozhou and Datong counties because of snow and ice. The road closures have disrupted truck shipments of coal from local mines.
