Iron ore’s primary demand-driver is steel, and as such, there are a few steelmaking countries that far outstrip others in terms of per-capita demand for iron ore and pig iron. Austria and Belgium, for instance, feature high in the list due to their low population and efficient, high-production steel sectors. Others rely on a high-volume steel industry alone, and still others are prolific producers but simply house so many people that their per-capita demand is very low.
